In 1999, in our former capacity, our largest US customer approached us to perform the job under formal agreement for their International Operating companies. The unique feature was that we were tasked through the contract structure, to obtain the lowest cost possible for everything we Procured, under scrutiny of Audit.
The old "Buying House" approach was not an option. We quickly created a culture of negotiation on behalf of our customer to obtain franchised status wherever possible in order to obtain distributor level pricing for any item that came across our queue.
In that process, we also became regarded as experts in finding just about anything that came across.
Obsolete Part Numbers and their Replacements, obscure Drawing Numbers attached to a Stores Description, OEM's long out of business, and their ascendants, and so on.
That culture and ability carries forward.
